Full Description

The Edinburgh University Padel Club, also known as Edinburgh University Padel Society, is located at 1, New Park Square, Edinburgh Park, Edinburgh EH12 9GR, UK, operating within the city of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. It has a latitude of 55.930189299999995 and a longitude of -3.3153414999999997. The club was founded in March 2024 and is entering its second official year in 2025/26. It is described as one of the EUSU's fastest-growing Sport Clubs and is Scotland's pioneering padel club, specifically offering the sport to students throughout the city. The club caters to all abilities, promoting affordable and inclusive padel for students, and externally aims to lead the national competitive student padel scene. The club offers both recreational and competitive padel. For competitive play, it participates in the National Universities Padel League (NUPL), having almost won it previously. It organises multiple domestic and international tours and trips, with past destinations including Newcastle and Malaga, Spain. The competitive setup includes 3 Men's squads (1st, 2nd, and 3rd teams) and 2 Ladies' squads (1st and 2nd teams). These competitive sessions focus on enjoyment and fun, accommodating players from intermediate levels with an "addiction to 3 set matches" to "seasoned veterans who can pop the ball out the court." The Ladies' competitive teams are noted for their extremely inclusive, no-pressure environment, where training often feels more like a fun knockaround. Individuals in the Men's 1st/2nd and Ladies' 1st/2nd teams have the potential to be selected to represent Edinburgh in NUPL fixtures against other universities in the North, with finals held in London. Trials are held for Men's squads, with movement throughout the season, and further information is communicated via Instagram. Competitive training takes place at Game4Padel Edinburgh Park, which features covered courts about 20 minutes by tram from Princes Street. Recreational padel sessions are hosted weekly at Craigmillar Park Tennis & Padel Club. These sessions are very affordable, costing around £2 per session, which is stated to be the cheapest rate in Edinburgh and nine times cheaper than the average London court. These sessions are open to anyone, men and women of all abilities, and beginners are more than welcome. Session timings and dates are communicated through member WhatsApp and Instagram channels. Contact can be made via email at padel@ed.ac.uk or through their Instagram account @uoepadel. Membership options include a Padel Club Full Year Membership for £60.00 and a Padel Club Semester 2 Student Membership for £40.00. Refunds for the Sports Union Membership and transaction fees are not available, but clubs may offer refunds at their discretion for club-specific fees. Students may be eligible for financial assistance through the University's Participation Grant and other hardship funds. The venue is wheelchair accessible and offers parking facilities.
