Full Bio

Nina Szownadze is a Level 3 LTA accredited and licensed tennis coach based in Edinburgh, Scotland, with a career in tennis spanning over 30 years. She began playing tennis at the age of four and competed professionally for almost two decades. Her junior career highlights include being ranked 32 in the Junior ITF rankings from 2000-2003 and reaching number 775 in the world as a professional on the WTA Challengers circuit. She was also ranked in the top 5 in Poland U16 & U18 and represented Poland in international competitions across Europe. Originally from Georgia, Nina has lived in Poland, Spain, and for the last 15 years, in Edinburgh. Nina is passionate about tennis coaching and has been coaching in Europe for two decades, with the last decade spent in Edinburgh. She provides high-performance tennis coaching, aiming to deliver accessible and effective training. Her students have competed at various levels, from local clubs to international tournaments, with some achieving top rankings in their respective categories in different countries. She will teach everything from technique to strategies to sportsmanship. She offers a range of tennis lesson services across the Edinburgh and Lothians area, including private lessons, junior tennis coaching, adult tennis coaching, and cardio tennis, for which she is an expert. All coaching is tailored to suit individual goals, with bespoke training plans developed after an initial competency assessment. Private lessons are available for individuals, pairs, or small groups, and are open to all ages, from Mini Tots (3 years old) to adults, covering all abilities from beginners to advanced players. Nina primarily coaches at Craiglockhart Leisure Centre but can travel locally for lessons. For private lessons, payments are made directly to Nina, and clients are responsible for booking their own court. Additional players can be added to a session for £5 per player, with a maximum of three players. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice are liable for full payment. Participants are advised to bring their own tennis racket (basic beginner rackets can be purchased from as little as £15, and Nina can provide advice). Appropriate footwear, such as trainers, comfortable sportswear, and a change of clothes are recommended. Nina provides a guide for playing standards: - **Beginner**: For those new to tennis, just started, or returning after a break. - **Improver**: Possess basic technique, can sustain a rally, but may make mistakes and might not have served before. - **Intermediate**: Plays regularly, has solid technique, can play with some tactics, though might struggle against advanced players. - **Advanced**: Competes, has extensive tennis experience, can hit balls with placement, top-spin, and power, rallies consistently, and hits with power and direction from both forehand and backhand. This level typically involves regular competition or an aspiration to do so. An expert tennis coach like Nina can help determine a player's level and plan and reach their objectives.
