Egg & Co is Scotland's first co-working space for women, with a primary location at 23 Union St, Edinburgh EH1 3LR, UK, and a retail and events space at 51 George Street, Edinburgh. The Union Street co-working space, which opened in May 2023, is a cool urban area spanning two bright and airy floors, fully equipped with new desks and chairs, and offers free coffee. It is centrally located in Edinburgh's New Town, just off Forth Street, a 2-minute walk from Broughton Street and a 5-minute walk from St James Quarter, and within walking distance of Waverley train station for commuters. This location provides hot desking, permanent desks, three private offices to accommodate teams of 2, 3, and 4-6 people, meeting rooms, and a podcast studio. Access hours for the co-working space are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Booking for hot desks is available, with 'egg card holders' receiving a £5 discount, while 'non egg card holders' can book at the standard rate. The overall 'egg' community, founded by Kylie Reid in 2017, began as a Facebook group for women and has grown to over 65,000 members across Scotland, including 35,000 in Edinburgh. The physical extension, Egg & Co, aims to support women and their businesses by fostering collaboration, conversation, friendships, and breaking down barriers, serving as a safe space for work and play, and an incubator for ventures. The 7,000 sq ft George Street location, which opened on January 29, 2022, on the former site of Laura Ashley, is an immersive and colourful hub. It hosts a variety of female-led Scottish businesses with a focus on sustainability, including The Tartan Blanket Co., Fruit Salad Flowers, Beira, diedododa, and Rare Birds Books. This location also features a coffee shop run by Steampunk Coffee and an events space on a mezzanine level. It provides comfortable seating areas, regular networking, speaker events, and yoga sessions, with Coulters estate agency acting as a main sponsor. Space is also allocated to the charity It’s Good 2 Give, which supports young cancer patients and their families. The broader egg platform is Scotland's first searchable, review-led platform for women, helping them find trusted recommendations for various services, and the digital egg card offers discounts at over 200 local businesses. Egg has partnered with Appointedd for online booking services. Currently, Egg & Co is temporarily closed.
