Full Description

Egg & Co is a multi-faceted enterprise originating from a Facebook group for women, founded by Kylie Reid in 2014 to foster connections and support among women in Edinburgh. It expanded into a full-time business in 2017, growing into a community of over 65,000 women across Scotland, with 35,000 in Edinburgh. The entity has since developed an online platform, Scotland's first searchable, review-led platform for women, offering trusted recommendations and a digital "egg card" for discounts at over 200 businesses. Egg & Co has established two prominent physical locations in Edinburgh. The "egg & co-working" space, located at 23 Union Street, Edinburgh EH1 3LR, opened in May 2023 and is designated as Scotland's first co-working space exclusively for women. This bright, airy, and cool urban space spans two floors in Edinburgh’s New Town, just off Forth Street. It is fully equipped with new desks and chairs, offering hot desking, permanent desks, three private offices suitable for teams of 2, 3, and 4-6 people, meeting rooms, and a podcast studio. Free coffee is provided. The location is highly central, with independent coffee shops, restaurants, and bars nearby, a 2-minute walk to Broughton Street, a 5-minute walk to St James Quarter for shopping, and within walking distance of Waverley train station. Team egg is based in this space, which operates with access hours from 9:00am to 5:00pm, requiring a keypad code for entry. Booking for hot desks is available, with a £5 discount for egg card holders and an option for non-egg card holders to book. The "egg & co" space at 51 George Street, an expansive 7,000 sq ft building, opened on January 29, 2022. This location serves as a retail experience, venue, and a female co-working space. It hosts a diverse range of female-led Scottish businesses with a focus on sustainability, including The Tartan Blanket Co., Fruit Salad Flowers, Beira, diedododa, and Rare Birds Books. The space also features a coffee shop run by Steampunk Coffee and an events space on a mezzanine level, along with comfortable seating areas where "Drip coffee" is available. Coulters estate agency, a main sponsor, has experts on-site for housing and mortgage inquiries. Regular networking, speaker events, and yoga sessions are held here to promote wellbeing, and space is dedicated to the charity It’s Good 2 Give, which supports young cancer patients and their families. This space also aims to foster collaboration, conversation, and friendships within the community. Both physical locations embody Egg & Co's vision to provide safe, creative hubs that facilitate collaboration, spark conversation, ignite friendships, break down barriers, and act as incubators and launch pads for women's ventures, instilling confidence and empowering them to pursue their dreams.
